Most capsules are made of gelatin. Gelatin is widely used in many foods, such as pudding, sweets, preserves, chewing candy, icing, food filling and dipping. In food, gelatin can help food solidify, thicken, stabilize and ventilate. It is a very popular food ingredient with rich nutrition and low fat. Gelatin itself is a water-soluble protein extracted from collagen, which is the main natural protein component in connective tissue. Gelatin is obtained from the skin and bones of animals through a controlled extraction process. There are many types of gelatin. Capsules are made of pharmaceutical grade gelatin which meets the stringent requirements for pharmaceutical products. The process of making capsules is to form a gelatin film on a stainless steel mold. The gelatin film then dries and hardens to form a capsule, which is then removed from the mold. Generally, there are two sizes of mold, one is used to make capsule body, the other is used to make capsule cap with larger diameter.
